Day Thirty: Resting in Cusco

Today was a rather quiet day. We were all quite exhausted after a proper nights sleep after the Inca Trail. We managed to get up for some brekkie and the girls headed off for a massage mid morning.

In the afternoon we managed to work up the energy to have a stroll around town. We headed down to the artisan markets. Lots of interesting gift and souvenir ideas here. We bought a few things and then headed for something to eat.

I wanted to try the grilled chicken and chips here in Peru. They're everywhere; although it does look dodgy.
After struggling through the ordering process we waited 20mins. Something seemed odd. We asked again and basically reordered. 5mins later my food came and wasnt chicken instead it was a grilled pork cutlet with chips. I still dont know how i managed to order pork in a chicken shop, but something was definitely Lost in Translation. Anyway, here's hoping that I don't get ill.

We strolled around some more, and posted some thongs back home. The people at the post office were amazing. Put the US postal service to shame. So much easier. And to think they weren't even speaking English.

For dinner we headed out to a highly rated Cusco restaurant, Fallen Angel. My Uncle Mario had recommended this place to us. Was very cool inside. The tables were glass tops on bathtubs filled with lights and fish. Really cool. The restaurant also had a few guest suites, which we had the opportunity to check out. They were pretty funky, Astro turf in the bathroom floors, retro furniture and lots and lots of art.
The funny part was how the staff when showing us the rooms, mentioned that Susan Sarandon stayed here. WOW!

The food though was very good. Once again I had a soup first, delicious. Chicken, Ginger and lemongrass with vegies. Yummy. For mains we tried the Alpaca. As much as it was nice, I probably would have preferred a steak. Simmi ordered the steak Peruvian style and it was lovely.

After dinner we met up with the people from our Inca Trail group. We headed to a Peruvian club, where at first there was Spanish music and salsa dancing. Happy hour two for one cocktails made for an enjoyable evening. I'm quite a fan of the local cocktail now, Pisco Sour.
After a while the club turned into a west fest, with US/brit pop/r&b dominating - and suddenly it was like being back home in any old nightclub.

We said goodbye once more to all the cool people we had met on the trail, exchanged emails and headed home.

This was also our last night with our kiwi friends on the tour. They're quite lovely, quirky and entertaining. Was sad saying goodbye.
