Day Thirty One: On to Puno

Today was yet another early start. We hopped on a bus at 8am and left Cusco bound for Puno.

Was interesting drive south out of Cusco. The north part, the old Incan part of town is quite lovely and tourist friendly. However driving 5mins south you quickly see the real cusco where most locals live. Was a very interesting drive.

The trip to Puno took 7 hours and went up through the Andes and the highlands. The scenery was amazing however quite similar. We nodded off quite a lot on the trip.

We stopped at the state border of Cusco and Puno, we were 4338m above sea level, the highest we've both ever been. It was pretty cold up there I must admit.

Driving through the town of Juliaca was another eye opener. Looked like a place under permanent construction. Very dusty and very unclean. Still was interesting to see that side of Peru. In many ways that was what I was kind of expecting to see when coming here. I guess we have just been doing the nice places, like most tourists.

We finally got to Puno around 3:30. It's quite a quant little lakeside city, when we drove in it reminded me of dRoving through Launceston.
Puno is on Lake Titicaca, hence it was a little bit cold and breezy. We wandered into the main plaza and walking street/mall. There isn't really much to the place, much more maligned than Cusco and Lima.

We had some lunch, finally managed to get some proper grilled chicken and chips. It was ok, little underwhelmed but perhaps there was too much build up.

We headed back to our hotel and had a rest. Sim and I were both feeling a little sick in the tummy. Poor simmi has been feeling ill for a few days now.

We literally spent the rest of the night in bed, trying to rest and get better. Here's hoping.

We're looking forward to our Trip on Lake Titicaca tomorrow. Should be fun.

Goodnight all!
