Day Eleven: Happy New Year

We woke up early today and headed for Union Station for our train to New York. Quite a beautiful station actually. Flooded with morning light was quite nice.

The Amtrak trains, like our countrylinks are really quite good.

We were back in the big apple by lunch and after some troubles finding a cab to take us to Brooklyn, Williamsburg to be exact, we finally got to Billyburg and were in our loft warehouse apartment.
WOW - what a cool place. Views to the city were stunning at dusk. Really cool. I love it - infact I'm in love with the whole Williamsburg area. So hipster and chillaxed (at least that's what one sign said). We explored the main strip - Bedford Ave. Got a coffee and a Bagel with cream cheese - delightful. The Guys next to us were talking about rehearsals and getting back into the studio while the woman on the otherside was reading the script of Clockwork Orange. HIPSTER with capital H. Seriously it's like Chapel St, Fitzroy and Newtown on steroids.
The good thing is coffee is ok - not as good as home but better than we've had.

That evening we headed into Times Sq for the madness of NYE. The streets were packed and police barricades were everywhere. We met up with the group we were spending nite with, most of them lo and behold were Aussies, with some poms and Germans thrown in for good measure. We drank at a disco bowling alley for a few hours before heading to what was the most random experience so far - cocktail party at Madame Taussauds. Wow - what a bizarre experience. Drinking and dancing away near wax figures of Brad Pitt, Gabdhi, Obama and Michael Jordan. There was one point there when I was at the bar and I looked across and saw Morgan Freeman, Bizarre!

The best part about being here was that we got escorted thru crowd to the building then out at 11 - where we got a pretty good view of the ball dropping. To be honest it ain't that spectacular - but hey we dis it once! The crowds were quite scary to bs honest - at one stage I thought someone was going to get crushed from all the pushing and barging - madness.

Once it was 2011 - the real fun began. We headed to Ruby Tuesdays and drank the nite away. That's all I'm gonna say. Simone has video that if it does make it home, will explain the evening further.

Happy New Year All. See you this year!

  1. And happy new year to you all too. I will be seeking out copies of video on your return. Yes I didn't think much of the Time Square part of town when I saw it. Glad you had fun.
