Day Forty Two: Designated Rest Day

Well we are half way through our trip now, Kinda convenient that ecuador be the midpoint of our trip, what being the equator and all...you know middle...!

Anyway. Our flight from Quito to Santiago was how you might say....TERRIBLE!
We flew out at 9:45pm and arrived at 6:15am. Not a good idea. No sleep and no comfort made for a pair of pretty tired travelers in Santiago.

When we finally got to our hotel at 8 in the morning we only wanted to get to bed. Unfortunately, our room wouldn't be ready for a couple of hours.

We walked the streets of the city in a sleepy daze, wandering more than looking. We finally made it back to the hotel and up to our room for some rest.

Zzzzzzzzzzz

When we finally woke, to our amazement it was 7pm. Wow...we mustve been tired. That was over 8hrs sleep. I kinda think we needed a day of nothingness, just to recharge. I mean Wimbledon and Le Tour de France have rest days, so it makes sense I guess.

We headed out for dinner at 8:30ish, crazy thing is the sun doesn't set until 9:30sh here. Nuts, it's daylight savings on drugs here.

People seem to eat pretty late too.
We were eating in the Bella Vista barrio, the bohemian district where poet Neruda once lived. Very much like Potts point/Elizabeth bay area. Again we had a nice meal. Very rich and filling however, and the size of meals was a bit excessive. Sim had steak while i had fish with spinach, doused in cheese and almond gratin. Way too complicated combination but nice. Best part was the beer; Cristal, nice drop.

After dinner we caught a rather expensive cab back to our hotel for some more sleep. The cost of things here is not exactly cheap. Basically the same as home...damn!

Nite all

  1. Re "Kinda convenient that ecuador be the midpoint of our trip, what being the equator" amazing you know that until you made me think about never put it together that Ecuador is probably derived from the Spanish for equal or middle. Glad you took time to rest. Its an important part of traveling. Love Dad
