Day Fifty Two: Patagonian views and Porteno parties!

This morning was another early start as we checked out of the hotel and headed for the airport. Before that though we had one hast stop to make.

We took the cable car up the Cerro Compania and checked out what is apparently the 7th best view in the world (I found that very funny). The view was amazing though, 360 degrees of lakes and mountains of Patagonia. Pretty cool.,

Simi enjoyed herself trying to take a picture of her jumping in mid air while I enjoyed a coffee and a cubanitoe.

We headed back down the chairlifts, taking in the amazing view for the last time and then headed for the airport and Buenos Aires.

We landed at 3:30ish however it took a while fir our luggage and connections to come. We've started to realize that argentinians do things so slowly - they're a lazy lot.

That afternoon we cruised the centre of town. We indulged in a mega pancho (hotdog) and coke, 5 pesos-great value.

We spent some time looking at all the markets lining the pedestrian streets before heading back for a beer on the street corner of our hotel. The 1ltr beers are doing me in.

The funny part of the day was the Irish Pub across from the hotel - it's not really an Irish pub, rather a front for a topless waitress/strip club (Good Beef & Guinness Pies still apparently).

That evening we headed out for dinner with the rest of the group to a pizza and pasta place - Italian influence is really dominant here. The food was ok - nothing special. By the end of dinner it was midnight, however the night didn't end there..

We caught a cab to the happening district of Palermo to go for a drink. The cab ride was nothing short of scary. They drive like in a video game here, at one stage there was 4 cars wide and 3 lanes of traffic- nuts!

Portenos are a crazy lot - as we headed to the bar in Palermo we were told it didn't get busy until 2-3am in the morning. Crazy! The people here are nocturnal. The siesta is so important too, and unfortunately I didn't get one in today. I in particular was exhausted. Simi was keen to stay out but I couldn't go on - we got to bed about 3.

What a crazy day - beunos aires is a whirlwind.
